Hello, I’m Preeta Varkey — an architect, artist, and the founder of Colorful Imprint.
I began my professional journey as an architect and interior designer, focusing on structure, detail, and functional design. This foundation continues to shape the way I approach all my work — with clarity, balance, and careful attention to detail.
My introduction to watercolor goes back to my college days, where I used it as part of design presentations. It remained there for many years, without becoming a central part of my practice.
After becoming a mother, I stepped away from my profession to focus on homeschooling and caregiving. What began as a short break gradually extended over time, shaped by my child's needs and the responsibilities that came with them.
Once my son became more independent in his studies, I returned to creative work and revisited watercolor — this time as a practice in its own right. Over time, it developed into a consistent body of work, including original paintings that explore nature, color, and form.
Today, my artwork forms the foundation of Colorful Imprint. My paintings and sketches are translated into premium-quality notecards, gift tags, and other stationery products. I also create surface pattern designs, adapting my original work for use across fabrics, wallpapers, and other surfaces.
Alongside this, I have returned to architecture and interior design, re-establishing my work as a freelancer. I also enjoy photography, which complements my work and continues to influence how I observe light, detail, and composition.
More recently, I’ve been exploring cyanotype printing, adding another dimension to my work through processes that engage with light, time, and natural elements.
Colorful Imprint is an extension of this journey — where architecture, art, and design come together in a considered and everyday form.
